I just bought something off ebay with Paypal. I haven't done so in a while and the credit card I used to use with it is now expired. The payment went through though, so did Pay pal know of my other one? I'm not really sure how it works or if it has to do with the bank or something and I was a little worried.I only assume it went through because it said so after I made the transaction that you successfully paid for it, but I wasn't sure if this was just an automatic message or not.

I would be VERY surprised if the transaction did go through. How are you sure it did? To be sure, you should call the 1-800 number on the back of the card, and check with customer service. Most merchants process credit card transactions in "batches," or at the end of a business day. I expect it will "kick back" and NOT be processed, as the expiration date PayPal has will have been met.

Did you check your credit card account and verify that it went through there? The reason I ask is because paypal normally asks for a "backup" account in case this happens. Your transaction might have been processed through that backup account and not the credit card that was selected. I have my bank account number and my debit card as a back up account so no matter what if there is no money it's not going to go through.That message you got was more than likely an automatic reply because you made the payment (went through the steps anyway). You should log into paypal right away and update your credit card expiration date. Good luck!

If paypal belongs to the automatic account updating service for Visa and MasterCard, then changes to paypal accounts will be automatically updated.

All credit cards have expiration dates. If you have already added your credit card to PayPal, then one day it is most likely to expire. I am not sure about it, however, when you enter your credit card details in PayPal, you also need to mention its expiry date, so maybe PayPal knows if your credit card expires.
