http://www.lebenshunger.com/index.htmlI saw a customer with a gsd from this breeder and it was amazing. It was very friendly, it let me pet it after it smelled my hands. The owner said it is the best dog, and it goes every where with him. This breeder is in Maine. He said they are imported from Germany and he has been breeding for 15 years. Also, you put 900 dollars down before they are born then 900 after. Total is 1800Another one which looks good, although i don't know any customers is this one. http://www.brownhillshepherds.com/ The parents are show dogs and it shows them with ribbons, they charge 1200 for a dog. This one it looks like you get more for your moneyCan you guys take a look at each of the link and tell me what you think. Thanks

I am a firm believer of not getting a dog off the internet unless a rescue. I would only get a dog from a breeder that has a good reputation in the show and greeding community. All breeders should be papered, championed, and genetically tested against herediary defects. They should have paper work to prove all three for both stud and b*tch.and you should be able to see both. There should be contracts that state a garuntee for health defects as well as a clause that prevents you from giving the dog to a shelter. All responsable breeders want to know that no puppy they brought into this world ends up homeless. Lastly they should have numerous referances for you to check. If they meet these requirements then that's where you should get your pup.

The dogs on the first link have roach backs. I've seen a lot of that in GSDs recently and it's a bad trait to breed in. These dogs will probably struggle in later life, if not already.

Brown Hills health checks their dogs. They're a part of the GSD Club of America; and they breed CH titled dogs [they tend to have obedience titles or something of the sort as well].They seem like a very good breeder.Lebenshunger looks like they sell very good, sound dogs. It's questionable that they only have females, but I suppose they really don't want any inbreeding of any sort? They both look good. But I'd go with Brown Hill Shephers. If you're still questioning them both -- go to a few dog shows and get into touch with the GSD owners/breeders.They'd be the number one people to talk to.

Both places breed "show" dogs. If that's what you're looking for, they're both about the same. Keep in mind, the working titles were most likely "purchased" (not earned).

The first one does have very good German GSD's. They have health certs BUT are mainly used in Schutzhund. Also, it is hard to read the pedigrees when they are in German, lol.The second one is far better IMO. All of their males are Champions, most of their females are Champions (or have points towards a title or have CH sires), all have been OFA'd, all have very good pedigrees, they have been breeding since 1979, and though $1,200 is a lot - you are getting exactly what you pay for! A puppy that is intelligent, well bred, wonderfully pedigreed, champion titled pups that will (80% of the time) be show quality. Not to mention healthy and they come with a training package. I would ask about their health guarantee since it's not mentioned.Definitely #2. I commend you for actually looking for a good, reputable breeder!

OK, reading the other posts, I'm going to totally change what I said.I'd say look for other breeders. (1) The credit card / paypal thing is suspicious(2) If working dog prizes can be bought they aren't worth anything(3) The extreme back slant is bad news. Both breeders you suggest seem to have it (the second more than the first if you go through the photos section). Don't encourage breeding this into show dogs by rewarding it financially. And I don't know where you live, but please consider GSD rescue. Google "german shepherd rescue" to find one near you, or go here:http://www.gsdrescue.org/

I am leaning more towards Lebenshunger, but would do more research. I am also a little biased on working lines. Do they title their dogs or are they imported in already trained? (I couldn't tell on the site). Neither one mentioned if the will take their dogs back at any time, but i did notice the first one offered lifetime mentoring, etc, which is good. You want a breeder that will be there for you. Brown Hill says their dogs are used for working K9's too, but i dont' see any working titles and they seem to be all show lines. It is unlikely to have a working K9 from show lines. Someone suggested the Pedigree Database. That is a really good resource. Also, http://www.germanshepherds.com/forum/ubbthreads.phpis really great. They will also give you feedback on breeders and there are quite a few breeders on there.
