taken of the endangered species list in the rockies and Great Lakes region?Personally I would like to see a few survive this time as before they were placed on this list they were nearly wiped out of existence in the lower 48.Like bears, unless a pack or one or two become a nuisance they should be moved to a safer location.Let`s just hope the ranchers along the Rockies this time work with the Wild Life folks instead of going on hunts to wipe them out.It wasn`t long ago when I lived in Alberta that I remember the Wild Life folks in Yellowstone National Park imported a dozen Wolves from Alberta to repopulate the area. They were hunted down within 3 weeks by local ranchers. Let`s hope the same doesn`t happen this time.Good Luck and God Bless

Well, I live in Colorado and I couldn't agree with you more. The wolves have been expanding their territory and I think they've got a pretty good foothold at the moment. I know the Forest Service in Colorado takes their reintroduction to the area very seriously and they are doing everything they can to ensure their survival. But, like you, I wish they'd keep them on the endangered list for a while longer.

Ranchers aren't gonna work with wild life protectors. They're going to shoot them. We got extremely lucky that they bounced back once put onto the list. If they get hunted down again, they may not recover.

www.defendersofwildlife.orgAs much as I don't like that Obama is in office Palin is a huge enemy to wolves. She allows aerial hunting of wolves and denning, where cubs are shot in the den. This is all for the same reason as out in the Rockies area. Wolves eat the big game that people want to shoot. It's not about the wolves being a nuisance, it's about people wanting to have all the big game to hunt for fun and wolves might interfere with that.Wolves are top predators that we need. Most of them, bears and wolves like you mentioned as well as the big cats, are so scarce that hunting is actually required for the health of the big game herds. Unfortunately the deer are smarter than the hunters and wind up starving over the winter.Humans need to stop meddling with eco systems, let the wolves come back. We're the "better species" and we need to learn how to coexist with others. I don't know if this passed or not but Bush wanted it to be legal to shoot wolves that left Yellowstone. Because apparently they have signs out that the wolves are able to read and know they are going to get shot. There are actually groups out there that compensate ranchers for livestock loss due to wolf attack, fyi.

Maybe my ideas are too radical. But, I feel that humans should do less ecological engineering. I do not believe we thoroughly understand nature to be able to balance the flora and fauna around us. The ranchers must use technology to deter the wolves rather than shoot them. After all, they have a right to life too and endless human encroachment has to stop first. I apologize if I have ruffled too many feathers. But I truly believe that there is a need for us to live in harmony with nature and not mold it to our liking.

People are idiots when it comes to wolves. They have this big bad image in their head when in reality wolves are flighty and don't want confrontation...maybe if the public image wasn't so much big bad wolf as "sharp, shy canine" they'd be in better shape...*sigh*.

I don't have to deal with wolves, I have to deal with coyotes. They come into the subdivision like clock work. I have to guard my dogs while they go potty. When I see the coyotes, I just take my dogs back into the house. I guess they eat the dog food the outside dogs in the subdivision don't eat, because they seem like they are on a mission. I am not sure if they kill the cattle of the farmer across the street. I think wolves are pretty, but coyotes are just ugly.
