First you had better learn the import export business. After that, you had better know your wines. I am not so sure the Wine import business would be real viable in California. The State is a huge producer of there own wines and have many strict sanctions on what types and quantities, and the origins of import of wines.

To learn the business, it is best to get involved with the business if you really want to start your own company. You can do this by either getting a job working with one of them or really getting to know someone who already owns a company. As far as liquors as well...simply yes you can also import liquor. There are more laws and permits that you have to attain, but it can be done...in fact many liquor distributors/imports also handle wine.
