they want to look and be better than their peers.i know so many filipinos that will only buy the best because they feel they have to be better than other people,but that goes for most asian nations not only filipinos.

maybe those who have money...they think it's astig or something like that but not all filipinos are that...most of us filipinos are actually okay with what we have but if we have some extra cash we do tend to treat ourselves...to indulge and to experience what other races do have...

This is due to product quality and the fad.. I do agree with you but not on the concept you mentioned..For me, there's not much originality anymore on the entertainment industry particularly for the singers.. Some bands still compose hits but most bands and singers just sing old songs and claim that its theirs..

First off, I don't think originality is what you should be asking. Based on the examples you gave, you should be asking if filipinos have colonial mentality or if they are fad sensitive or something.As for my answer to your question of originality? Of course filipinos have originality. Filipino creativity is world renowned. From the famous wood sculptors in paete, to the artistry of filipino musicians and songwriters, the originality of filipinos cannot be questioned. Even the development of the famous Philippine jeepney is a product of originality.Just because filipinos patronize other products do not diminish their capacity for originality. And just to address your examples, spartans and havaianas are not exactly the same. So goes for nescafe and starbucks. Sometimes people do decide based on the merits. They buy because that is what they want, not just because it's imported or it is what other people want.

what do you expect from poor people. they do nothing but ape people of culture. philippines should rename itself as republic of LAOS. oh wait----that name is already taken. how about republic of BADUY?
