I've heard the CEOs talking at the hearings and I am a serious car buff and know a great deal about GM cars specifically. With the CEOsswearing that they will make a profit and a much better car if they are bailed out, the one thing that comes to my mind is IF they were truly capable of making a better car that out sells import, THENWHY WEREN'T THEY DOING IT ALL ALONG? Because they can't!THat's why. They are arrogant CEOs. Better cars always sell in greater quantities, EVEN if they cost more. But when they cost more and ARE NOT better, they don't sell. GM cars fall apart in a nickel and dime fashion. All four knobs on my Delco radio have cracked, and it's not from extreme cold because I livein SC. Black paint on the wiper arms is peeling off. On an express van, white paint on the door frame is flakingoff, exposing the gray primer. If they were capable of making a better car than import car manufacturers, then they would have been doing so all along,and they wouldn't be in THIS trouble now. So don't lend them any money because they will be asking for more and more andmore, because they will NOT be able to make better cars, becausethey CAN"T. Or do you think they HAVE been making the best cars?They told us that they made the best cars BEFORE! This is good?The motor has been leaking coolantsince 2002, and is a nightmare in a van to get at due to lack of space.They've been rewarded for failure for too long. Its because the american auto maker was giving away millions of dollar bonuses to them self and not to the car company to make better cars.

Don't tell me you seriously think anything is going to change as a result of this or any other bailout? All this money is simply about propping up failing systems with the hopes that some miracle will occur which will keep the country from slipping into depression. The government cannot even tell us where all the money is going and they are not placing any real requirements on any company which receives it. All the auto bailout does is keep the big 3 afloat for another month. Look for them to return hat in hands before February.

Because the U.S. car manufacturers bought into the "Change" montra. It worked for a man with no experience to get elected president, why wouldn't it work for companies who have built less than stellar products, suddenly now become bastions of quality craftsmanship.

I`ll answer this the way a lot of idiots answered a question on legalizing marijuana. If you don`t like the laws in america, MOVE. If you don`t like american cars then move to asia where the money you paid for your car ends up. Which in turn becomes weapons that will one day be shooting at americans. Sure the "american" car workers get paid more. So what!! Are you all jealous that they make more money so you support a foreign company? What if there was a Osama Bin Laden mobile that got 100 mpg? Would you still curse americans for getting paid more and not ask where the profit money goes to the foreign car maker? The reason that foreign car makers pay their employees less is because they are just as greedy, if not more greedy than the american car makers. You are soooooo RIGHT!! I have a 2007 Yukon, after having many things go wrong, including the transmission go out, while we were on a trip, the dealership acted like it was no big deal!@#$#$@!, I called headquarters and yelled like the dickens, they did however send me back the money for the extended warranty I bought, big deal, you should have seen the loaner junks I had to Drive, I had 8 different loaner cars, After I threatened them with a law suit ( I thought I had a lemon and they should give me a new car) they finally called in a computer specialist, and fixed the car, so far so good!!!

Just heard a Business news report that the sales of SUVs are up and people are buying less hybrids already, now that gas is cheaper. Here we go again. What message will the car companies get from that.Never bought an American car, except wonderful Hondas built in America. Don't plan to change.And "American" cars aren't American anyway. Half the parts are imported.
