I'm fine with it. Maybe eventually we could witness a rice shortage here in the states, but people are over reacting to the rationing by stores. 80 pounds....... I can only buy up to 80 pounds of rice per visit now. How will I ever survive...

Rice shortage is the problem today not only in the Philppines but also in the rest of Asia. Those days you have rice fields as far as your eyes can see .But now you have factories and godowns. You have grown from the agriculture era to industrialisation. One step forward. You can import your rice at a cheaper rate. The importers and dealers are the culprits. They hide the rice to creat a false shortage in order to jack up the price further. They are the ones to be punished. The government should control the price so that these people cannot make too much profit.

The country has since sunk to mediocrity, and nothing helps. We used to produce our own rice and even export them to other countries. Nowadays, the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) in Laguna is no longer functioning well. And, with the advent of more housing projects to places where rice fields used to yield our staple food, a shortage is indeed inevitable. I believe it all boils down to what happened in 1986. After 22 years, this happens. So what are your thoughts?
