I have just read on internet from the United States Dept. Of Agriculture, that although U.S. accounts for less than 2 percent of global production, it is currently the fourth-largest RICE-exporting country. I always thought that INDIA, CHINA, maybe PHILLIPINES, were the largest rice-exporting countries in the world!!!!! But the U.S.???!!!!!!

If India, China and the Philippines were the largest rice exporting countries in the world that would still leave a slot open for the United States to be the 4th largest, right? The USA only consumes about half the rice it produces. Rice is not really a staple of American food. I imagine a lot of it goes to Central America, as their cuisine uses lots of rice.
