Travel Isan - unheeded but precious land
Sawasdee pee mai ! (in Thai) or Happy New Year ! As the New Year unfolds, we wish you to have a magical holiday filled with surprise and to enjoy many moments. Its so hard to guess where you guys have been celebrating your long holiday. Anyway, I hope Thailand will be one of your choices once. During a long holiday there seem to be traffic jams everywhere, especially in Korat or Nakhon Rachasima, the door to the northeast of Thailand. The northeastern region of Thailand, also known as I-san, is often ignored by backpackers and travelers to Thailand. The land connecting Laos and Khmer country is colorful and interesting. It is well worth the time allowing travelers to explore. I-san is also the origin of well known local food like Som Tum or Thai papaya salad which you should not miss when you visit here. Along Mekong River there is much to see, like the riverside provincial towns of Nong Khai, Nakhon Phanom and Mukdahan all with scenic river views, good cuisine and a relaxed feeling to them, as do the outlying towns that dot the river's length.
