I was at madurai a couple days back and now at Chennai. Now..it seems there seems to be some issues and not sure its safe for tourists to get into Kerala. Also...a small correction from carn;s message...instead of ooty..you can go to kodaikanal...one of the best places you will love. I loved that place and stayed for a month .
