Agreed! Wife and I travel cross-country as often as possible in a gadget-filled sleeper minivan and wouldn't have it any other way. Once you get off the Interstates and onto State and rural roads, you really get a feel of the community and its history. Most people who drive follow trucks and watch trees. Not us -- we take the old two lane when possible. Most recently, Utah via US-6/US-50 to US-40 and Indiana. Including some awesome original Portland sections of US-40 and National Road.If you're interested, have a look:
Video - US-40 From Missouri to IndianaUS-50 is linked below that video if you'd care to watch that one as well.Later next year I'm planning a return to old US-66, another trip via the Lincoln Highway and if there's time, a return via US-20. No interstates!.
