my browser suddenly stopped working, if i typed a domain name, i could not visit it, the enter button did not work, even when i pressed GO it would not. None of the several browsers i had worked. If i try to open a file in MyComputer, it blinks but does not open it (explore as opposed to open did work though). I formatted the disk and reformatted it and still the same problem. Now it finally worked but does not seem likme normal.
i scanned my pc, the anti-visrus software couldnt find anything. guys thanks a lot for your explanations, evlma thanks as well for your longer expalanation. I am using windows xp, the problem is not just with the internet. when i try My Computer to expand (as opposed to collapse) on the programs/files they just do not work. I tried to install a program but could not explore the cd, when i click on "explore" it just blinks. I could not open the files in my removable drive etc. I have reinstalled xp twice, it now works fine. the problem, however, keeps coming and going.. my PC is some 3 years old, should still work for another 3:-) |

is this a virus?

It sounds more like you need a new computer then you having a virus especially when you reformatted and scanned for viruses and found nothing. |

well there is a lot to know before making a good guess even.
did you upload all your updates from windows? is your OS a windows OS? What OS is it? operation system is os, sorry : ) my first move after making sure the computer was clean (using more than just one anti virus program because they all seem to miss something, and you need anti spyware and stuff) would have been a system restore, if you have that. I would call my isp and ask them what is up, there could be an issue there or many times they know something and or can scan your computer to see what's up and they can sure answer simple questions about connectivity and compatibility. Many times new programs update and cause a confliction. Reformating should fix about any virus or spyware problem. sometimes your modem has an issue and you need to unplug it for a minute and plug it back in, or your router might have a problem that will fix as well, or sometimes they just go bad. You can try hooking up directly to your modem to eliminate a router problem. Right now if I were you though, I'd call my isp and ask what's up. I think that would be your best shot at a quick resolution. Sometimes phone modems are a thing too by the way or other hardware, and you can check your hardware by going to control panel - system - hardware - device manager - find device and click on it and a report will come up telling you if it is operating properly or not. Wish i could help more, make sure to include information about operating system, how old is the computer, brand of computer, your internet hookup like cable dsl or phone modem Good Luck, I'll check in to see if you add more info, but do check with your isp, they can do a lot to help and they are hooked up to your computer as well which helps a lot. Don't let anyone from here hook up to your computer though, that gives them an open door to your system and you don't know anyone here enough to trust them with that. |

A virus application is able to duplicate itself. Therefore that the virus increases on a pc by generating reports of itself. This duplication is intentional; it is piece of the virus application. In most conditions, if a submit that contains virus is carried out or ripped onto another pc, then that pc will also be "infected" by the same virus.
