Default Poaching in South Africa

It's been really sad to see that nearly 200 rhinos have been poached in South Africa since the beginning of 2011 - the majority from Kruger. It seems that the gangs that are 'taking' these animals are well organised and sophisticated often using automatic weapons. Despite some prosecutions going through the system, the poaching seems to continue unabated. There needs to be no leniency shown for these individuals - they should have strict sentances imposed. But that's not all - we also need to look at where the horn is going. It's the demand for rhino horn that is creating this issue - we need to look at what can be done to try to reduce this demand. Only by doing both things together will we see results..
