Default New Phone Scam - BEWARE!

Fellow RFD'ers, My mom received a call today around 1:07pm EST with someone saying they're calling from the Federal Government Do Not Call Centre and asked for my dad. Since he was not home, they then proceeded to give her a 5 digit code and told her that someone will call back and that she should give them the code. When the next call came in, my mom started asking questions and the person started cursing at her till no end. They kept calling back 5 times and continuously just swore. The last 3 calls I took. So I googled the first number that came through, which was 310-928-7055 and found this: http://whocalled.us/lookup/310928705...uote---Someone called my home when I was not at home and told my daughter (who is just 15 yrs old) that they are calling from some tele marketing site etc.. and told they will be leaving a 4 digit code and they need the code. Few minutes later she got a call from this number 13109287055 which left some 4 digit code. The message clearly said not to give the code to any one. Later the original caller called and got the code from my unsuspecting daughter. I really don't know what is the implication. I called the above number and it just tells it is telephone verification system. I am really worried. Any idea what kind of scam is this? I called Craiglist. They said they don't leave any verification code on the phone. They only send it by email. I called my phone company and locked 3rd party charging on my phonenumber. Now I have to wait and see---End Quote------Quote---I received phone call from with caller Id: OUT OF AREA without any phone number but person calling mentioned that they are verifying if we receive ANY MARKETING CALLS UNSOLICITED. she says FCC has got a system to stop any more unsolicited call and In next call computer provide 5 digit verification code which she wants to know. I asked why she is asking the code her computer system is generating, she told to verify that number is correct one. Then I received call from caller Id: 310-928-7055 saying it is from crieg list. I informed her about the 5 digit code, she says it is correct.I verified later in FCC site , I do not find any such project to provide consumers with system. Now I am worried whether some fraud in under way and how far my information is compromised.I advise others who receive such calls next time, try to track them and inform either FCC OR FTC OR state attorney general if it sounds like fraud.---End Quote---Details: Ph number of one of the calls - 310-928-7055 which apparently is linked to CraigslistLast call came up w/o a number and went to answering machine - when I checked who called (pressing 5 in answering machine), the calling id of 0052591936 appeared...tried googling it but it's not a complete ANI. The person who called was Sri Lankan (could tell from his accent and pronunciation of words) and claimed his name was "Jack Morgan"Unfortunately before I could do call-trace, my dad called and since call-trace searches back the last number called, the cops would've ended up questioning my dad for the fraud :PSome of the sites I researched say it's just craigslist calling to verify a post etc., but my folks don't know how to use craigslist nor post there. Anyways, just a heads up incase someone here gets such calls - I suggest just hang up. Anyone else experience this?

Default Consequences

Hello,

I received a call like this and unfortunately fell in the trap. What were the consequences, for you and for your privacy, of this scam? Did you inform the police? Was your private information compromised?

When breaking in a flat tappet engine, adding some extra protection is a must. Shame on anyone not doing that today. If you have a roller engine, then there is no problem. Adding some extra zinc whenever you change the oil is not a bad idea, but not nearly as important as having it during break-in.
