Default Fellow Canadians??

Hey there! I grew up in the States as well and have been in Canada since I was 10 years old. People at my school thought it was sweet that I had an accent and although I did get called the "American", it was not meant to be hurtful or mean.

Come to Canada with an open mind about the people and be courteous. Unless someone works in retail or at a restaurant, no one actually cares about where or how you spend your money (in response to the money spending in Canada). It's not like we run around begging for the American dollar as lately it has been lower than or at par with the Canadian one.

A lot of Canadians are confused about Americans and vice versa. Also, don't be deterred because someone said Canadians are backstabbers. I see things from the perspective of both Americans and Canadians, and I can tell you that it varies from PERSON to PERSON and not everyone in either country is the same. You will meet many sincere Canadian people.

You hold a Canadian citizenship, however, so be proud of it. Who cares where you've lived before? I know many Canadians who have lived in Thailand, Australia, etc. and it doesn't change who they are as a person.

The other answerer was right though - people in Quebec can be a little rude if you can't speak French. It might be helpful to learn a few key phrases. They appreciate it when you make an attempt.
