Default socket adapter also a voltage converter?

I have a european/usa socket adapter.
On the label it says Input: 240V~/120V~.
Does this prevent items such as iPod chargers, cell phone chargers, and hair straighteners from blowing up?
(I am traveling to Ireland, France, and Switzerland and I am wondering whether I should bring these thing or not)

A socket adapter is not a voltage converter. However, your iPod and cell phone chargers will most likely work with Euro voltages -- check the owner manuals or the back of the adapters. The hair straightener needs a converter -- one that is at least 1500 W.

Are you sure your phone will work in Europe? They have different networks over there -- many phones from the US don't work there at all.
