Default leaving the country, and im 18.?

im a bit confused.... i want to do some travelling for a couple of weeks to paris in this coming april.... i am 18, so is this even possible, without having to have any consent letter from my parents.. i've heard that you only have to be 18, is it based on individual provinces because i live in British Columbia and the legal age is 19 here for most things. or is this for any resident in canada, not just by province. where can i find the correct information on this, since when i looked it up on the Foreign Affairs website about children and travel it states that "Generally, persons younger than 18 years of age could be considered children" what does that mean, "generally" ... that makes me think it does go by what the provincial age is. which would mean, im kinda screwed.....

Well, the purpose of the letter is not for Canadian authorities to let you leave the country, but for foreign countries to let you into their country. Many foreign countries will not let minors enter without that letter...so it depends on the country you are traveling to. See 1st site below and read under "French Customs" to see that France does require minors to have that letter...it does not specify the age. Go to 2nd site to see that the age of majority in France is 18. Some countries use a different age...so that is why the site you quoted said "generally."

No need to worry to much because your 18 yrs old. You need to go to the embassy of the country you want to visit (of course located at your country) and ask them what are the information you need.
